How Can You Use AI SEO Agents to Grow My Clients Websites

09/15/2026 11:06 PM by Admin in Seo

Most people hear the words search engines and artificial intelligence in the same breath and think of pure garbage. I felt the exact same way for a long time. I started doing search work back in 2016. I ran search growth at Webflow when it grew from a scrappy startup into a $4.2 billion business and today I run my own publication, Marketer Milk, alongside client advisory work.

I spent the past year building out custom SEO AI agents to handle the repetitive parts of my work. I write my published drafts by hand. I am sitting at a wooden table in a Blue Bottle on Fillmore Street in San Francisco right now, typing these words on my laptop. I use these agents to plan content calendars, track site errors and dig up hidden opportunities for client accounts.

You can build these helpers yourself with standard tools.

What an SEO AI agent actually is?

An SEO AI agent is a software helper that carries out specific search tasks using live tools. You give it access to your software stack, a language model and a written instruction file that tells it how to act. Automated workflows in tools like Zapier run on fixed rails. If an API call fails or a row is missing, the whole chain snaps. An agent reads your goal and decides which steps to take. It queries your search tools, inspects the data and retries if it hits an unexpected error. You control the agent through conversational prompts. You provide the judgment and the guidelines. The agent runs the legwork.

How to build an SEO AI agent in 5 steps

Building an effective agent requires deep knowledge of the task you want it to handle. You have to understand the manual steps before you teach a system to copy them. It took me months to figure out how to package my search knowledge into clean instruction files.

Here is the 5-step process I use to build every agent.

1. Document your manual workflows

Grab a blank document and write down every click you make during a normal client campaign. I start from the ground floor whenever I onboard a new brand. I document how I study their buyers, how I map their main topics and how I pick their primary search queries.

List the exact order of operations. Note which metrics you check first and which tools you open. This document serves as the blueprint for your agent.

2. Turn your workflow into a skill file

Take your written workflow and open up Claude or ChatGPT. You can use the model to turn your messy notes into an instruction file. I run an interview prompt that pulls the details out of my head through dictation:

codeText

I want to create instructions for a system skill prompt that I can give to an AI agent. This will be specifically for identifying which pages on my site are losing search traffic so I can know what pages to update. Based on this, interview me on my exact process, technical steps, concerns and tradeoffs. From there, create a system skill prompt in markdown format.

Talk through your answers out loud using voice mode. Explain what you do when data looks messy or when two keywords conflict.

The output is a clean markdown file. You will feed this file directly to your agent as its brain.

3. Choose your agent software

You need an application to host your instructions and run your prompts. For solo work, I use Claude projects on the desktop app. You build a project for each client site and drop your markdown skill files into the project instructions box.

When you manage a marketing team, you need something that shares easily across accounts. Gumloop works best for team setups. It lets you build agents using models from OpenAI, Anthropic or Google while connecting directly to marketing tools. Start with a simple single-agent setup before you try linking multiple agents together.

4. Connect tools with MCP

Model Context Protocol or MCP, connects your language model to external software databases. Without MCP, an agent can only answer with facts it memorized during training. With MCP connected, the agent queries live data from your tools and writes files directly to your drive.

I plug my Claude projects into Ahrefs, Webflow and Google Search Console. The agent pulls live backlink numbers, checks page counts and inspects search positions on command. You skip the tedious job of getting spreadsheets and pasting rows into the chat window. Gumloop features built-in connectors for Semrush, Google Sheets and Notion. You can tell your agent to audit internal links and dump the fixes into a shared client sheet within seconds.

5. Set your activation triggers

Your skill files must tell the agent when to run. You define simple trigger phrases inside the markdown instructions. Typing "new blog post" tells the agent to open the drafting template. Typing "content decay check" signals the agent to inspect traffic losses in your connected search console. Each skill lives in its own file with separate triggers. One project window can manage research, technical checks and drafting without getting confused.

7 SEO AI agents I run every week

Here are the 7 specific agents I built to handle daily search campaigns for Marketer Milk and my SaaS clients.

1. Topical authority agent

Search engines favor sites that build deep libraries around a single subject. This agent spots which themes your site already dominates so you can double down on them.

  • Best for: Finding quick content expansion wins

  • What it needs: Your topical authority skill file and a CSV export from Google Search Console

I feed this agent an export of my Search Console queries once a quarter. The agent maps the queries into topic clusters and calculates my average position for each cluster. It generates an interactive report showing which categories Google already trusts us on. When the report shows high average positions for a topic, I build 5 more articles in that cluster. Those pages rank fast because the domain has established trust there.

2. Content strategy agent

A bad plan ruins search campaigns faster than anything else. This agent builds a full quarterly publishing plan tied directly to your sales pipeline.

  • Best for: Building conversion-focused keyword roadmaps

  • What it needs: The APTK framework skill, your domain URL, your target buyer profiles and a list of product features

I built this around my APTK framework: Audience, Products, Topics and Keywords. The agent looks at your target customer and links their pain points to the exact features your product sells. Then it queries Semrush or Ahrefs through MCP to pull search queries with strong buying intent. It skips fluffy search terms that bring empty traffic. You end up with a targeted list of topics that bring actual buyers to your website.

3. Content decay analyzer

Articles lose search positions as they age. Competitors publish fresher guides, links break and search habits shift.

  • Best for: Spotting ranking drops every 3 to 6 months

  • What it needs: Your content decay skill file and search traffic exports

This agent compares your current 90-day search performance against the previous 90 days. It looks for URLs with the largest negative traffic drop. Finding these drops manually takes hours of spreadsheet filtering. The decay agent scans 500 URLs in 30 seconds and outputs the top 10 pages that need an immediate refresh. Catching these drops early saves your site from sudden organic traffic crashes.

4. Content updater

Finding a decaying page is only the first half of the battle. This agent tells you the exact sentences, headers and keywords you need to update to win your spots back.

  • Best for: Refreshing older posts to restore lost rankings

  • What it needs: The content updater skill and page query data from Google Search Console

The updater pulls all the search terms where your page earns impressions but few clicks. These terms represent topics Google expects your page to cover. The agent scans your existing text, flags missing sections and suggests new subheadings.

codeText

Analyze this URL and compare it against our Search Console query list. Suggest 3 new subheadings and highlight outdated data points that need newer facts.

I used this exact agent loop on a client article last month. The page grew from 100 daily clicks to over 230 daily clicks within 3 weeks of republishing.

5. CRO agent for custom embeds

Driving search traffic means nothing if those readers leave without taking action. This agent builds interactive modules that turn visitors into paying customers.

  • Best for: Boosting conversion rates on top-performing search pages

  • What it needs: The CRO skill file, your CMS type and brand design guidelines

The agent writes custom HTML, CSS and JavaScript for callout boxes, price calculators and comparison tables. Fintech brands like Ramp build interactive calculators right into their top blog posts to secure user signups.

I tell Claude Code which CMS I am using and describe the tool I want. It writes the code snippet, tests the responsive styling and gives me a block I can paste straight into Webflow. These interactive tools keep readers on the page longer and generate qualified sales leads.

6. Blog post builder

I do not want machine models writing my finished articles. I do use this agent to build rock-solid outlines based on my proven article structures.

  • Best for: Fast outline generation for long-form guides

  • What it needs: The blog post builder skill, a target search term and reference guides

The agent contains templates for comparison articles, software roundups and instructional walkthroughs. When I hand it a target search term, it asks me questions about the target audience and the core takeaway. Then it produces a clean heading structure. The outline leaves space for personal stories, case studies and proprietary steps. It speeds up my planning phase while leaving the actual writing to me.

7. Speech-to-text proofreader

Typing long articles takes hours of keyboard tapping. I speak my drafts out loud and let this agent handle the messy dictation errors.

  • Best for: Cleaning up raw voice dictation without losing your personal tone

  • What it needs: The proofreading skill file and raw voice-to-text notes

Most writers let language models rewrite their sentences into sterile corporate speak. That ruins your voice. I use a strict prompt that blocks the model from changing my phrasing:

codeText

Proofread this text for spelling, capitalization and punctuation errors only. Keep my voice, tone, word choice and sentence structure intact. Do not rewrite my sentences. Fix the transcription glitches only.

This cuts my drafting time by two-thirds. I can speak a thorough 2,500-word guide into my microphone in 40 minutes. The agent patches the punctuation errors in seconds and my original voice remains intact.

The best software for building SEO AI agents

You do not need a dozen subscriptions to build a working setup. Pick one tool that fits your current team size.

Claude

Claude sits on my desktop and handles my daily advisory tasks. The Anthropic Opus model follows complex instructions better than any other system I have tested. It respects negative boundaries and avoids rewriting text when you tell it to back off. Projects let you build isolated environments for different domains. You can wire it to your marketing software through desktop MCP servers. It remains my top recommendation for independent consultants and solo publishers.

Gumloop

Gumloop provides the cleanest visual builder for multi-step search systems. It includes native integrations with Semrush, Google Sheets and Slack. Your agents can pull keyword volume, inspect backlink numbers and drop summaries into your team channels automatically.

You can switch between models from Anthropic, OpenAI and DeepSeek within the same flow. If you run an agency or manage search operations across a mid-sized team, this platform gives you the central control you need.

Perplexity

Perplexity acts as an automated research assistant for search intent. It shows how generative engines summarize topics across the web and cites the specific web pages it pulls from. You can hook Perplexity into your Gumloop nodes to monitor citations for your brand. It keeps you updated on which publishers gain visibility inside conversational search engines.

Focus on real experience

Software agents handle manual data sorting, rank checking and technical sweeps in a fraction of the time it takes by hand. They cannot replace your real taste and your lived experience. Algorithms and readers both reward genuine testing, honest numbers and original viewpoints. Use these agents to strip away repetitive busywork. Spend the hours you save talking to customers, testing software and publishing ideas that come from real work.
